Daily News: Texas manages to keep Clemson at bay in College Football Playoff opener

In an exciting first round of the expanded College Football Playoff, the Texas Longhorns defeated the Clemson Tigers 38-24. Jaydon Blue was the star of the game, running for 146 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-sealing 77-yard burst in the fourth quarter. Texas will now advance to the Peach Bowl on January 1st to face Big 12 champion Arizona State.

Blue was supported by Quintrevion Wisner, who added 110 yards rushing and two first-half touchdowns, and quarterback Quinn Ewers, who passed for 202 yards and a touchdown. Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik, a native of Austin, put up a strong fight with 336 passing yards and three touchdowns, but ultimately fell short.

Despite some injury scares, Texas emerged victorious and is the only one of last season’s playoff teams to make it to the new 12-team field. Clemson, who won the ACC championship, will look to defend their title next season and earn their eighth playoff berth. Stay tuned for more exciting matchups as the playoff continues.
