David Compton, an organ donor at Long Beach Medical Center, was honored on the 10th anniversary of his passing with a floragraph in the 2025 Rose Parade. Compton believed in finding a passion that brings happiness, which included writing, cars, and motorcycles. His decision to be an organ donor saved lives and his legacy will be commemorated to raise awareness about organ donation. Long Beach Medical Center and OneLegacy have a longstanding partnership to promote the impact of organ and tissue donation. Compton’s family, former care team members, and OneLegacy collaborated to create a floragraph made of organic materials for the parade float, “Let Your Life Soar.” The theme of the float honors organ, eye, and tissue donors, their families, and recipients. Compton’s love for koi fish inspired elements of the float, symbolizing strength, courage, and health. The hope is that the float will inspire viewers to consider organ donation and register to become donors. Compton’s family expressed gratitude for the opportunity to honor his memory and impact.
