A 20-year-old California man was detained by the FBI after allegedly communicating with the 15-year-old shooter responsible for the Wisconsin school shooting that left two people dead. The man admitted to discussing carrying out a mass shooting with the shooter. A gun violence emergency protective order was served to him by the FBI, with a court hearing set for January 3. The order requires him to turn over firearms and not possess any guns while it is in effect.
The man’s name does not appear in any online search of criminal cases, and no criminal charges have been mentioned by any involved agencies. Police are investigating the motive behind the shooting at the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin. The shooting resulted in the deaths of a staff member and a student, with several others injured.
Two guns were found at the school, with one used in the shooting. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted a trace of the guns, but more information about them has not been released. Police are also examining the shooter’s social media accounts to determine if anyone else may have interacted with her leading up to the shooting.
While the investigation continues, there is no current threat to the Carlsbad community where the detained man was residing. Authorities are working to piece together the events that led to the tragic incident at the Wisconsin school.
