The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) has announced the launch of the New Mexico Quantum Technologies Award Pilot Program, a grant aimed at supporting quantum technology companies in or relocating to New Mexico. The program, led by EDD Secretary-Designate Rob Black, will award non-dilutive funds to early-stage companies working in quantum technologies. New Mexico has been recognized as a potential hotspot for quantum technology, with groundbreaking work being done at Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, as well as the University of New Mexico.
The state has partnered with Colorado and the Elevate Quantum consortium to advance quantum information technologies in the Mountain West region. This partnership has secured Tech Hubs designation and implementation funding, establishing the region as a major player in the quantum industry. New Mexico also supports the New Mexico Quantum Moonshot, a proposal focused on advancing dual-use quantum technologies.
Elevate Quantum CEO Zachary Yerushalmi emphasized the importance of supporting quantum startups, stating that they are essential for the growth of the quantum technology ecosystem. The NMQTA Pilot Program is now open for applications, with eligible proposals demonstrating the potential to develop and grow in the quantum technology field. Applicants must maintain a business presence in New Mexico for at least two years, with up to five awards of $100,000 each available.
Interested parties can find more information on the NMQTA Pilot Program on the EDD website. This initiative highlights New Mexico’s commitment to fostering innovation and leadership in the quantum technology industry, positioning the state as a key player in the future of quantum technologies.
