Top-ranked UCLA continued their dominant start to the season with a 97-41 victory over Fresno State in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu. Led by Lauren Betts’ 20 points and 12 rebounds, the Bruins had five players in double figures, with Kiki Rice and Gabriela Jaquez each contributing 15 points.
UCLA’s stifling defense held Fresno State to just 27% shooting and outrebounded them by 26, including a 15-2 advantage on the offensive glass. The Bruins scored 58 points in the paint and capitalized on second-chance points, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-0 in that category.
The game was effectively decided in the second quarter when UCLA went on a 21-1 run to close the period and take a commanding 57-23 lead at halftime. They maintained their dominance throughout the game, extending their lead to as many as 59 in the closing minutes.
Fresno State, coming off a four-game win streak, struggled against UCLA’s relentless play. Despite Mia Jacobs leading the Bulldogs with 11 points, their efforts were not enough to overcome the Bruins’ offensive and defensive prowess.
UCLA will look to continue their winning ways in their next matchup against Hawaii, while Fresno State will face Tennessee Martin to wrap up the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. The Bruins have now won 11 consecutive games against Fresno State, showcasing their dominance in women’s college basketball.
