Granite Hills Secures Division 1 Football Title as Max Turner Shines in Victory Over San Marcos


The Granite Hills High School football team achieved a three-peat by winning the CIF San Diego Section Division 1 championship, defeating San Marcos 42-25. Led by Max Turner, who rushed for 220 yards and scored five touchdowns, the Eagles secured their third consecutive title. Turner now has 1,906 yards and 29 touchdowns this season. The victory was witnessed by an estimated crowd of 5,500 at Southwestern College.

Turner, a senior, expressed gratitude for his talent and teamwork, acknowledging the role of his offensive line in his success. The win marks a remarkable achievement for Granite Hills, who now advance to the Southern California Regionals following their sixth consecutive victory. San Marcos, with a season record of 11-1, saw their run come to an end in the championship game.

The game began with Granite Hills dominating, scoring two quick touchdowns in the first quarter. Despite a brief comeback by San Marcos, highlighted by a kickoff return for a touchdown, Granite Hills maintained control throughout the game. Quarterback Zach Benitez contributed with 247 passing yards, connecting on crucial plays to secure the win. Coach Kellen Cobbs commended his team for their resilience and ability to make key plays under pressure.

With this victory, Granite Hills solidified their status as a powerhouse in high school football, showcasing their skill and determination on their path to a historic three-peat. The team’s success is a testament to their hard work and commitment to excellence, setting a new standard for football in the region.
