Six individuals were rescued from a collapsed home in Jefferson City, Missouri, after an unexplained explosion caused extensive damage to the residence. All six individuals were taken to University Hospital with moderate to severe injuries, with three of them in critical condition requiring life-saving measures. The genders and ages of the individuals were not immediately available. The rescue operation was challenging due to the structural collapse and debris, with first responders utilizing specialized equipment to remove victims from the rubble. The entire rescue operation lasted over three hours, during which two pets were also rescued and turned over to animal control.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and representatives from the hospital did not provide an update on the patients’ conditions. The Jefferson City Fire Department’s Special Operations Rescue Team played a crucial role in the rescue efforts, with assistance from 37 personnel on the scene. The agency emphasized the importance of training and having the right equipment available in such situations. The state capital of Jefferson City is located 133 miles west of St. Louis.
