Meghan Markle has applied for a three-month extension to trademark the name ‘American Riviera Orchard’ for her lifestyle brand, after the initial application was rejected in September. The US Patent and Trademark Office cited that geographic names must be left free for all businesses in the same area. If the extension is not granted, Meghan will have to restart the entire application process. The USPTO also requested further details on certain products like cooking utensils and napkins.
Meghan teased her brand back in March with a website, Instagram account, and a promotional video. The former actress appeared in the clip doing various activities like baking and gardening. This venture appears to be a revival of her lifestyle career since closing down her blog, The Tig, when she became a senior member of the royal family. She has also filmed a show for Netflix celebrating cooking, gardening, and entertainment.
In April, Meghan sent products from American Riviera Orchard to friends like fashion designer Tracy Robbins, who raved about the jam they received. The Duchess has received several office actions as part of the trademark application process, which is considered routine. Meghan’s brand is set to offer a variety of products, and she is determined to establish her lifestyle brand successfully.
