In a Friday night game that stretched into early Saturday morning, the No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs pulled off an epic comeback to defeat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with a final score of 44-42. The Bulldogs fell behind 17-0 at halftime but showed immense grit and determination, led by quarterback Carson Beck who threw five touchdown passes. Georgia Tech’s Haynes King put on a stellar performance, running for three touchdowns and throwing for two.
The game, which extended into the eighth overtime, was the longest in SEC history and was just one overtime shy of the FBS record. After a thrilling back-and-forth battle, Nate Frazier finally ended the game with a 3-yard burst for a 2-point conversion to secure the victory for Georgia.
Despite giving up 563 total yards to Georgia Tech, the Bulldogs still have a shot at a spot in the College Football Playoff. Head coach Kirby Smart praised his team’s resilience in the face of adversity and emphasized that their playoff fate is still uncertain. Georgia Tech, although devastated by the loss, showcased tremendous progress under coach Brent Key.
The Bulldogs will now focus on the upcoming SEC championship game against either No. 3 Texas or No. 20 Texas A&M. Georgia is aiming to win their third national title in four years, while Georgia Tech looks forward to another bowl invitation and the opportunity to achieve their first eight-win season since 2016. The epic showdown between these in-state rivals will be remembered as one of the most thrilling games in recent memory.
