Connecticut’s congressional delegation, including Democratic Reps. Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, and John Larson, as well as Sen. Chris Murphy, were targeted with bomb threats at their homes before Thanksgiving. However, no bombs were ultimately found, and no charges have been filed yet. The threats were part of a coordinated effort against multiple members of Congress and public figures. Local and state police responded to the threats but did not find any explosive materials. Law enforcement is currently investigating the incidents, with the FBI and U.S. Capitol Police yet to comment on the matter. The threats come in the wake of previous incidents where President-elect Donald Trump’s planned administration officials were also targeted with bomb and “swatting” threats. The Capitol Police reported an increase in threats made against members of Congress in recent years, with over 8,000 incidents investigated in the previous year. The incidents highlight the ongoing concern of political violence in the country and the need for increased security measures to protect public officials. Lawmakers expressed gratitude for law enforcement’s swift response to the threats and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and civility during the holiday season.
