Buffalo Sabres Shut Out Kings 1-0 in Hard-Fought Battle
Los Angeles, CA – In a tightly contested matchup at Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday night, the Buffalo Sabres edged out the Los Angeles Kings with a score of 1-0, marking the Kings’ first shutout of the season. The decisive moment came just 38 seconds into the third period when Jason Zucker scored on a power play, tipping a shot from Rasmus Dahlin into the net for his 200th career goal.
Despite having five power plays, the Kings struggled offensively, failing to capitalize on any opportunities. Kings coach Jim Hiller expressed frustration, emphasizing the need to convert power play chances into goals, stating, “That’s the difference in the game… we’re not getting it done.”
Kings goalie David Rittich made 18 saves in his second consecutive start, while Sabres netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was stellar, denying all 23 shots he faced. The Sabres have now won five of their last seven games, despite being without their leading scorer, Tage Thompson, and winger Jordan Greenway due to injuries.
The Kings had moments of offensive pressure throughout the match, especially late in the third period when they pulled Rittich for an extra attacker. However, they could not find the back of the net, with notable misses from Adrian Kempe and Quinton Byfield.
Hiller reflected on the game, acknowledging that while the Kings had their share of chances, "you’ve got to score goals, especially on the power play." The Kings will face the Seattle Kraken on Saturday, looking to rebound from this tough loss.
For Buffalo, the focus remains on building momentum as they continue their season strong despite injuries impacting their lineup.
