The House Ethics Committee is meeting to discuss whether to publicly release a report on the investigation into former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be attorney general. The investigation looked into allegations of sexual misconduct, drug use, bribery, and obstruction of justice. Gaetz has denied the allegations, and the Trump transition team has called them baseless. The committee has interviewed women who testified that Gaetz paid them for sex, including one who witnessed him having sex with a minor. Gaetz resigned from office after being nominated for the position. Despite reservations from some Republican senators, Trump is standing by Gaetz as his nominee for attorney general. The committee has the option to release the report publicly, forward it to the Senate, or take no action. Democrats on the committee argue that the report should be made public as there is precedent for releasing reports on former members of Congress. If the committee declines to release the report, any House member can try to force a vote to make it public.
