Gardena Serra High School football coach Scott Altenberg found himself in an unexpected situation on Wednesday when he joined other teachers in cleaning up after a fire broke out under the stadium bleachers. The fire caused significant damage to the press box, leading to the cancellation of classes for the day.
Despite the visual damage to the press box, Altenberg commended the quick response of the fire department in containing the fire and preventing further destruction. He noted that the press box may not be usable in its current state, but the efforts of the firefighters helped limit the extent of the damage.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time and is currently under investigation. Altenberg, who was supposed to be teaching in a classroom that day, instead found himself assisting in the cleanup efforts following the early morning incident.
The school community is grateful for the efficient response of the fire department and the support of teachers and staff in addressing the aftermath of the fire. While the press box may be out of commission for the time being, the school is working to assess the damage and make necessary repairs to ensure the safety and functionality of the stadium bleachers.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on recovering from the incident and working together to move forward. Despite the unexpected turn of events, the resilient spirit of Gardena Serra High School shines through in the face of adversity.
