Disneyland Poised to Introduce Drone Light Shows Following Successful Global Implementation
Disneyland and Disney California Adventure may soon join their counterparts at Disney World and Disneyland Paris in featuring stunning drone light shows. Steven Davison, Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering for Parades and Spectaculars, discussed this innovation during a recent panel at the D23 Expo in Anaheim.
Davison highlighted the advanced capabilities of modern drones, stating, “You’ll see a lot of this coming and in very clever new ways.” This follows Disneyland Paris’s successful introduction of the “Disney D-Light” drone show, marking a milestone in the integration of aerial technology into daily entertainment at Disney theme parks.
Disney’s experience with drone shows is not new; the “Starbright Holidays” drone show debuted in 2016 at Disney Springs, featuring 300 Intel drones. Disneyland Paris has set a precedent with its elaborate nighttime displays, including the “Disney Electrical Sky Parade,” which Davison described as possessing a “magical quality.”
The use of drone light shows provides a compelling alternative to traditional fireworks, allowing Disney to tell stories through choreographed aerial displays. Davison emphasized the potential of technology to create unified and immersive experiences. “You transform something into something that no one had ever seen before,” he noted.
Disney has already filed patents for innovative concepts involving drone-controlled puppets and synchronized 3D displays. Possible locations for future drone shows at Disneyland could include existing nighttime spectaculars such as “Fantasmic,” “World of Color,” and even over themed areas like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Avengers Campus. As Disney explores these new horizons, fans eagerly await the next chapter in its nighttime entertainment evolution.
