Press Article: Khalil Mack Sits Out Due to Groin Injury in Chargers-Bengals Clash
INGLEWOOD — The Los Angeles Chargers faced a significant setback Sunday night as outside linebacker Khalil Mack was sidelined for the first time since joining the team. Mack did not participate in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium due to a persistent groin injury he sustained two weeks prior during a victory over the Cleveland Browns.
Having played only a limited role last week against the Tennessee Titans, Mack’s injury was described as "unique." He initially hurt the left side of his groin and later aggravated the right side while attempting to adjust his movements during the game. This led to his first missed matchup since his acquisition from the Chicago Bears in March 2022.
As the Chargers prepared for the Bengals, Mack emphasized the importance of taking his recovery day by day. “Gotta take it one day at a time,” he stated earlier in the week, reflecting on his cautious approach.
The absence of Mack was somewhat mitigated by the gradual return of fellow linebacker Joey Bosa from a hip injury, although Bosa was under a snap count threshold. His increasing strength was anticipated to offer the Chargers needed support against the Bengals.
The Chargers’ linebacker corps remains one of immense talent, led by Mack and Bosa, complemented by second-year player Tuli Tuipulotu and veteran Bud Dupree. During a recent three-game winning streak, the team managed an impressive 18 sacks.
In roster news, wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. and tight end Hayden Hurst were notable healthy scratches from the lineup, despite having no injury concerns reported. The Chargers gear up for what Mack dubbed a compelling matchup against the Bengals, hoping to maintain momentum without their star linebacker.
