Antron Brown Triumphs at NHRA Finals, Secures Top Fuel Championship
POMONA – Antron Brown celebrated a thrilling comeback at the Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing Series Finals on Sunday, clinching his fourth Top Fuel championship and marking the 80th win of his illustrious career. Competing at the 59th In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals, Brown overcame adversity to defeat Doug Kalitta in the Top Fuel final, ensuring a festive holiday season ahead.
“It’s been incredible," said Brown. "This team has been resilient." Brown’s victory followed a semifinal showdown against Brittany Force, who faltered when her tires rattled, allowing Brown a straightforward path to the championship. This year marks Brown’s first title as a team owner with AB Motorsports.
The event was momentarily interrupted by an unfortunate plane crash at the Pomona Dragstrip that injured four spectators, two critically, but racing resumed after about two hours. Brown quickly got back on track, defeating Justin Ashley and then Shawn Langdon to rise to the top of the championship standings.
Meanwhile, Austin Prock of John Force Racing made history by becoming the first Funny Car driver to break the 340 mph barrier and solidifying his first Funny Car championship, despite losing to teammate Jack Beckman in the finals. “The job wasn’t finished,” Prock stated, acknowledging his accomplishment with humility.
In Pro Stock, Greg Anderson claimed victory over Dallas Glenn to also seize the championship, while Matt Smith won the Pro Stock Motorcycle final, with Gaige Herrera securing his second consecutive championship.
Overall, the NHRA Finals showcased a mix of drama and triumph, culminating a remarkable racing season for all competitors.
