Two Earthquakes Shake Inland Empire Near Fontana

Fontana, CA – The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported two earthquakes over 3.0 in magnitude on Saturday in the Inland Empire, particularly near Fontana. The first quake, with a magnitude of 3.5, struck at approximately 2:17 p.m., about 4.5 miles northwest of Fontana and at a depth of around 1.5 miles. Six hours later, a second quake with a magnitude of 3.4 occurred at 8:17 p.m., at a depth of over 2 miles, located approximately 3.7 miles north-northwest of Fontana.

Residents from as far as Santa Clarita in the northwest and Temecula in the southeast reported feeling the seismic activity, according to the USGS Internet Intensity Map. Fortunately, there were no reports of damage from either quake, which experts categorized as "minor." The Southern California Seismic Network, operated by Caltech and the USGS, confirmed the minor nature of both events.

In light of the tremors, the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District took to social media, reminding residents to be prepared for any emergency situations that may arise.
