The province of Catanduanes lost power after a typhoon knocked down trees and electricity posts, with many houses damaged, adding to those already impacted by previous storms. Half of the 80,000 residents were in evacuation centers, and officials threatened arrest for those who did not evacuate. Over 750,000 people sought refuge in emergency shelters due to multiple storms in the northern Philippines. The storms left over 160 people dead, affected 9 million people, and caused extensive damage to communities, infrastructure, and farmlands. President Marcos Jr. held an emergency meeting to prepare for the worst-case scenario as another typhoon approached. Airports were temporarily closed, ferry services were suspended, and thousands of passengers were stranded due to rough seas. Foreign countries provided aid to assist the overwhelmed disaster-response agencies. The Philippines faces numerous natural disasters, including typhoons, earthquakes, and active volcanoes, making it one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries.
