Wilson Wildcats Storm Into CIF Semifinals with Strong Victory Over Estancia
HACIENDA HEIGHTS – The Wilson Wildcats showcased their prowess on the field with a decisive 27-12 victory over the Estancia Eagles, advancing to the CIF Southern Section Division 12 playoffs’ semifinals. The match took place Friday night at Los Altos High School, setting up their next fixture at Carter High School.
Dominic Ezeonye starred for the Wildcats, carrying the ball 23 times for 173 yards and two touchdowns while also making significant contributions on defense, including multiple rushes and a first-quarter sack. Ezeonye expressed his determination, saying, “Just run, ball, score… Pick up your feet. Drag however many people you want to the end zone.” With this performance, he is just 60 yards away from achieving 2,000 total rushing yards this season and holds 28 touchdowns.
The Wildcats quickly established dominance, scoring on their first three possessions. Ezeonye opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run, followed by a 20-yard run for his second score. Sean Lawson added a 60-yard touchdown reception, with quarterback Juaquin Villalobos completing 7 of 8 passes for 157 yards.
Estancia managed to tie the game at 7-7 with a creative trick play that resulted in a 40-yard reception, leading to a 4-yard touchdown pass from running back Jeff Brown. However, their success was limited in the second half, and despite some strong running from Brown, they struggled to maintain solid offensive drives.
The game swung further in Wilson’s favor when cornerback Noah Becerra intercepted a pass, leading to the final score of 27-12. Coach Charles Lewis praised both his offense and defense, emphasizing their physical playstyle and commitment to the game as they look forward to their semifinals challenge.
