Tropical Storm Sara made landfall in northern Honduras, threatening to dump heavy rain across Central America and southern Mexico. With winds of 45 mph, Sara hit near Brus Laguna, a village with a population of 13,000. Mexican authorities warned of “intense rains” over the Yucatan Peninsula. The storm was expected to move west before heading out to sea and potentially impacting Belize. Forecasters predicted 10 to 20 inches of rain, with up to 30 inches in isolated areas, which could lead to dangerous flooding and landslides. Sara was expected to pass near the tourist destination of Roatan before turning northwesterly towards Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula.
