Eagles Surge Past Commanders in Fourth Quarter for 26-18 Win
PHILADELPHIA — In a thrilling NFC East showdown Thursday night, the Philadelphia Eagles (8-2) secured a 26-18 victory against the Washington Commanders (7-4), marking their sixth consecutive win since the bye week. Saquon Barkley was instrumental in the triumph, rushing for 146 yards and scoring two pivotal touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
The game took a dramatic turn when Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, after absorbing a hard hit from linebacker Frankie Luvu in the second quarter, was evaluated for a concussion but remained in the game. Hurts completed the night with 221 passing yards and a critical go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard “tush-push” play.
As the game progressed with the Eagles holding a slim 12-10 lead, the Commanders attempted to reclaim the lead. However, after failing to convert on a fourth down, Philadelphia capitalized on the turnover with Barkley’s 23-yard touchdown run, expanding their lead to two scores. An interception by safety Reed Blankenship sealed Washington’s fate when Barkley rushed for another touchdown just moments later, extending the gap to 26-10.
Despite a strong start from the Commanders, including an early touchdown from Brian Robinson Jr. and a 45-yard field goal by Zane Gonzalez, they faltered late, unable to convert crucial plays.
While standout kicker Jake Elliott struggled, missing three field goals, he did manage connections from closer ranges to aid the Eagles’ scoring efforts.
In injury news, Eagles defensive tackle Milton Williams left the game with a foot injury. The Commanders are set to play four of their next five games at home, starting Nov. 24 against Dallas, while the Eagles will face the Rams in Los Angeles on the same day.
