The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that reliever Brusdar Graterol underwent right labrum surgery, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, that will keep him out for at least the first half of the 2025 season. Graterol had been dealing with shoulder issues throughout the 2024 season, limiting him to just seven regular-season appearances. Despite this, he played a key role in the Dodgers’ World Series victory against the New York Yankees.
The 26-year-old pitcher has been an important part of the Dodgers’ bullpen for the past five seasons, with a career 2.78 ERA. His absence will be felt, especially with uncertainties surrounding other members of the bullpen. Joe Kelly is a free agent, and Daniel Hudson has retired, leaving the Dodgers searching for options to fill the void.
One of the most crucial decisions will be whether Blake Treinen, one of the team’s standout relievers in the postseason, will be re-signed. Graterol’s injury adds urgency to securing Treinen’s return, as he becomes even more essential in the bullpen.
Despite these challenges, the Dodgers still have strong pitchers in Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, and Alex Vesia, providing some stability in the bullpen. However, Graterol’s absence will require the team to make strategic moves this offseason to ensure they have a strong pitching rotation for the 2025 season.
