John Force Racing Prepares for NHRA Finals Amidst Challenges and Triumphs
POMONA, CA — The John Force Racing team heads into the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Finals this weekend at Pomona Dragstrip, reflecting on a year marked by both hardship and celebration. Notably, team founder John Force made his much-anticipated return to the track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway two weeks ago, following a severe brain injury sustained in a June crash. The 16-time NHRA champion’s recovery journey involved months of hospital stays, but his presence at the races has reinvigorated the team spirit.
This season has been a rollercoaster for the racing crew. Despite the emotional toll from Force’s accident, two of the team’s drivers found success in Las Vegas: Brittany Force, John’s daughter and a Top Fuel racer, celebrated her first victory in over two years, while Austin Prock, a Funny Car driver, is on the cusp of clinching his first championship.
Brittany Force expressed the significance of her win, stating, “Having my dad here for the first time since his crash… there was definitely more heart behind it.” This victory marks her 17th career win and serves as a beacon of hope for a team that faced challenges head-on.
Prock, who captured his eighth win this season, acknowledged the duality of racing amidst personal trials. “We’ve had the emotions of John’s accident… and we’ve also had so much success.” He emphasized the strength gained through adversity, with the team poised for a successful finish at Pomona.
