President-elect Donald Trump announced Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host and military veteran, as his pick for defense secretary, describing him as tough and a believer in America First. Speaker Mike Johnson praised the selection, while Rep. Adam Smith expressed concern about Hegseth’s lack of experience in Department of Defense policy. Hegseth has criticized woke culture in the military and outlined a plan to address it. Trump’s previous defense secretaries, James Mattis and Mark Esper, left due to disagreements with Trump. In addition to Hegseth, Trump has also nominated John Ratcliffe for CIA director, Elise Stefanik for U.N. ambassador, Lee Zeldin for EPA chief, and Tom Homan as border czar. Susie Wiles was named as White House chief of staff. The appointments come amid Trump’s flurry of picks for his second administration.
