Navigating the complexities of health care and Medicare Part D can be overwhelming, but recent changes aim to make prescription drugs more affordable and accessible. Medicare Part D helps cover the cost of prescription drugs and recent updates include capping out-of-pocket costs at approximately $2,000 per year, Medicare negotiating prices of high-cost drugs, and eliminating the “donut hole” coverage gap. Some plans may now include a drug deductible as high as $590 and changes in medication formulary and tier levels could result in increased costs. Medicare beneficiaries should review their plan’s summary of benefits for upcoming changes. Additionally, certain plans, like UHC’s $42 monthly PPO and Alignment 007 PPO, will no longer be available in 2025, and beneficiaries will be automatically dis-enrolled into traditional Medicare. Plans from Alignment and Clever may also no longer be accepted by MemorialCare starting Jan. 1. While choosing a Medicare plan can be daunting, these updates are meant to make healthcare management easier and more affordable.
