Comedian Jay Johnston from ‘Anchorman’ and ‘Mr. Show’ convicted in connection to Jan. 6 Capitol attack

Hollywood actor Jay Johnston was sentenced to 12 months and a day in federal prison for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Johnston, known for his roles in shows like “Anchorman” and “Bob’s Burgers,” pleaded guilty to obstructing officers during a civil disorder. Prosecutors had sought 18 months in prison for Johnston, who was accused of participating in violence during the attack. Despite his involvement, Johnston downplayed the events to friends and family, claiming the media exaggerated them. Johnston’s lawyer argued that his role in the attack was overstated due to his status as a Hollywood actor, and that he has suffered personal and professional consequences. Johnston, who has been blacklisted by Hollywood, now works as a handyman after being unable to sustain his acting career. More than 1,500 individuals have been arrested in connection with the Capitol attack, with over 1,100 convictions secured so far. Johnston’s sentencing is part of ongoing legal actions against individuals involved in the insurrection. Some individuals have received prison sentences of up to 22 years for their involvement in the attack.
