Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has announced a coordinated, multi-agency effort to reduce traffic, ensure public safety, and promote local attractions ahead of a potential traffic nightmare due to multiple sports and entertainment events happening Friday and Saturday. These events include the World Series, a Lakers game, USC college football, the East LA Classic football game, and a concert by David Gilmour.
The city is preparing for a possible “carmageddon” with a focus on reducing traffic congestion and promoting public transit options. The LAPD will be deploying officers to increase visibility at various venues, while the Los Angeles Fire Department will position personnel to be ready for any emergencies.
The city has reached out to app-based companies for efficient GPS routes and is encouraging attendees to utilize public transportation, with Metro adding extra services on game days. The Dodgers Express Lane has been renamed Line 34 in honor of Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela, who recently passed away.
LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo emphasized the need for safe and efficient travel, urging attendees to follow traffic officer instructions and be aware of their surroundings. LAPD Interim Chief of Police Dominic Choi reminded attendees to make arrangements for safe transportation after consuming alcohol to ensure a positive and memorable experience during the events.
