West Covina Bus Stop Murderer: Homeless Man Found Guilty of Killing North Hollywood Resident

A homeless man, Rodney Rene Chapman Jr., has been convicted of the first-degree murder of Kevin Davis, 64, at a West Covina bus stop on July 7. Chapman, who also brandished a knife at a Burger King cashier in Pomona a week later, faces more than 51 years in prison. The jury found Chapman guilty of the murder and of exhibiting a weapon in a threatening manner, a misdemeanor. Chapman, who represented himself, claimed to be mentally ill but did not present any evidence during the trial. Davis was waiting for a bus to go home when he was randomly attacked by Chapman, who was caught on camera committing the murder. Chapman was identified wearing the same clothing in a police interaction just five days before the murder.

Davis had been at a bar in Rancho Cucamonga before heading to a bus stop in West Covina where he was murdered. Chapman was also arrested for the attempted slashing of a Burger King cashier in Pomona a week after the murder. The cashier was unharmed, and Chapman was later found to be wanted for the West Covina murder. Chapman remains in custody and will return to court for a status conference on the sanity phase of the trial in January. This case highlights the tragic consequences of violent crimes and the need for mental health support for individuals like Chapman.
