Israeli jets struck buildings in Tyre, Lebanon, sending up black smoke, while Hezbollah confirmed a top official had been killed in an Israeli strike. Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel, drawing retaliatory airstrikes. The Israeli military reported four projectiles crossing into Israel from Lebanon, resulting in two interceptions and one falling in open land.

Hezbollah confirmed the death of top official Hashem Safieddine, expected to succeed Hassan Nasrallah. Safieddine was reportedly killed in Beirut’s southern suburbs. The conflict began after an attack by Hamas triggered war in Gaza, leading to warfare in Lebanon. Strikes in Tyre have intensified, with the Israeli military issuing evacuation warnings.

The city of Tyre, featuring ancient Roman ruins and a Christian community, was struck by the Israeli military. Civil Defense warned residents to evacuate, with no reported casualties. The Health Ministry reported 28 deaths and 139 wounded within 24 hours, bringing the total toll to 2,574 dead and 12,001 wounded. Over 1.2 million people have been displaced.

In Gaza, Israel has restricted aid deliveries, resulting in the displacement of 60,000 people. The U.N. estimates 60,000 people have fled the far north of Gaza southwards. The Israeli military has arrested suspected Palestinian militants and forced hundreds of men to leave northern Gaza. The Israeli army aims to uproot Hamas militants in Jabaliya, with the conflict leaving parts of the area destroyed.

The situation in Lebanon and Gaza continues to be dire, with widespread displacement, casualties, and destruction. Efforts to renew ceasefire talks are ongoing as the conflict persists.
