Etiwanda Girls Volleyball Wins in CIF Southern Section Playoffs
In a Division 2 first-round contest, the Etiwanda girls volleyball team swept Alemany with scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-19. Despite a lack of early information due to a new playoff format, the Eagles dominated the match, never trailing by more than one point in any set. The third-seeded Eagles will advance to play at JSerra in the second round after defeating Alemany.
Etiwanda senior setter Brooke Hansen led the team with 24 assists, four kills, and three aces. The team’s strong serve and pass game allowed them to control the match and run their offense efficiently. Coach Savannah Flores highlighted the importance of confidence and moving past mistakes in Wednesday’s win.
Junior Nina Hemsley led Etiwanda with 11 kills, while Lauren Furnald added nine. Alina Parrales and Mya Yaisrael contributed 11 digs each. Alemany, led by 6-foot-2 senior Alanah Clemente, put up a fight but ultimately fell short.
Alemany coach Morgan Wijay expressed disappointment in her team’s early exit from the playoffs and attributed the loss to serve errors. Despite a young team, Alemany battled hard, with Tristyn Bailey recording nine kills and Valerie Bazylevych adding 25 assists.
Etiwanda’s strong performance in the first round sets a confident tone for the team as they look ahead to facing JSerra in the next round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
