In an interview with the New York Times, Kelly expressed grave concerns about Trump’s fitness for office, describing him as falling into the general definition of fascist.
Kelly revealed that he had admonished Trump for making statements admiring Adolf Hitler and saying that he needed “German generals” who would be loyal to him. Vice President Kamala Harris also spoke out about Kelly’s remarks, stating that they provide further evidence of Trump’s instability and dangerous tendencies. She warned that Trump wants a military loyal only to him personally, not to the Constitution of the United States.
During his time as Chief of Staff, Kelly was reportedly disgusted by Trump’s treatment of amputee veterans and comments about soldiers who died on the battlefield. Despite serving as one of the “adults in the room” during Trump’s administration, Kelly emphasized the importance of electing the right person to high office to prevent any further damage to the country.
