LOS ANGELES – After coming off a 35-32 win over Rutgers, the UCLA football team returned to practice with a sense of jubilation on Tuesday morning. Head coach DeShaun Foster was pleased with the victory but acknowledged that there were still areas for improvement, particularly in discipline, respect, and enthusiasm. The team now has a bye week, giving them the opportunity to address these issues and allow key players, such as receiver Rico Flores Jr. and offensive tackle Rueben Unije, to recover from injuries.
Foster sees the bye week as a chance to both get healthy and continue building on the momentum from their recent win. Tight end Moliki Matavao echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of making corrections and preparations for the next game. Quarterback Ethan Garbers earned Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for his standout performance against Rutgers, setting career highs in completions, passing yards, passing touchdowns, and completion percentage.
Looking ahead, Foster is optimistic about the team’s potential moving forward. While they may have wanted to continue playing, the bye week offers valuable time to address weaknesses and refine their strategy. The UCLA football team is motivated to make the most of this break and come back stronger for their next game.
