Angel City FC’s last home match results in a draw against Utah Royals

LOS ANGELES – Angel City Football Club’s third season in the NWSL did not go as expected, with the team falling short of making the playoffs. Coach Becki Tweed described the season as a rollercoaster, with highs and lows that showcased the team’s need for growth and improvement. Despite facing adversity, Tweed believes the team has made progress in establishing its identity and culture.

The team’s playoff hopes were dashed after Bay FC defeated North Carolina, making their final home game of the season against Utah meaningless in terms of the postseason. Although Angel City managed to secure a 1-1 draw with a goal from Sydney Leroux, the team struggled to maintain consistency throughout the season.

Angel City’s playoff aspirations were further hindered by a three-point deduction imposed by the NWSL for salary cap violations. Tweed emphasized the importance of the team taking responsibility for their performances and learning from their mistakes in order to improve in the future.

This marks the second consecutive season where Angel City has missed out on the playoffs, a disappointing outcome for a team with high expectations. Despite the setbacks, Tweed remains focused on finishing the season strong and preparing for the challenges ahead.

Angel City will wrap up their regular season with a road game against the Portland Thorns on November 1st. The team will look to end the season on a positive note and use the offseason to regroup and come back stronger in the next campaign.
