China and the U.S. intensify collaboration to combat smuggling

China’s National Immigration Administration has reported an increase in smuggling activities that threaten the personal safety and economic well-being of individuals. These activities have led to serious consequences, including loss of life. In response, China is collaborating with countries like the United States to crack down on smuggling and other serious crimes. Chinese people who have attempted to enter the United States illegally have been deported back to China this year. The difficulty in obtaining U.S. visas, combined with the economic impacts of China’s Covid-19 lockdowns, has led to a significant increase in Chinese nationals presenting at the U.S.-Mexico border. Government data shows that nearly 56,000 Chinese migrants were encountered at the Southwest border with Mexico and the northern border with Canada in the first eight months of the 2024 fiscal year, surpassing the total number of crossings in the entire previous fiscal year. This collaboration between China and the United States aims to combat smuggling and other criminal activities on the basis of mutual respect and equal consultation.
