Retired judge Gregory Weeks recently petitioned the North Carolina parole commission to release Daniel Green, who was convicted in the 1993 murder of Michael Jordan’s father, James Jordan. Green and his co-defendant, Larry Demery, were both 18 years old at the time of the botched robbery that resulted in James Jordan’s death. James Jordan was found shot in his red Lexus, which was gifted to him by his son, Michael Jordan. Green was found guilty of murder during the commission of a robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, while Demery testified that Green pulled the trigger. Both Green and Demery received life sentences for their roles in the crime. The details of Weeks’ petition are confidential, and neither Weeks nor Michael Jordan have commented on the matter. Green has maintained his innocence in the murder, but admitted to helping dispose of the body. Despite the plea for his release, the parole commission will make the final decision on whether Green will be released from prison.
