Daily News: Ducks excited for home opener against speedy Utah HC opponent

The Anaheim Ducks will kick off their 31st season with their first home game against the new NHL team, Utah HC, on Wednesday. Fans can expect a new on-ice projection system and the introduction of the 21st Duck, Emma Melin, who has raised awareness about severe food allergies.

Melin, a 9-year-old from Placentia, has faced multiple anaphylactic reactions due to allergens but has not let it stop her from being active in her community. Her efforts as “Allergic Emma” have helped promote awareness and wellness, and she was named this year’s 21st Duck by the team.

Ducks goalie Lukáš Dostál surprised Melin with the news during an on-ice session, calling it a “big honor” for the organization. Dostál himself had a strong start to the season, shutting out the San Jose Sharks in the opener.

Utah HC, the newest NHL team, has made a strong first impression by winning their first three games in franchise history. The Ducks faced off against Utah in their final preseason game, with Coach Greg Cronin noting Utah’s speed and offensive strength.

Utah winger Dylan Guenther has already made a mark with five goals in three games, earning him the NHL’s First Star of the Week. The Ducks will need to be prepared for Utah’s fast-paced and tenacious play style during their upcoming matchup.
