Health officials warn Chicago concert attendees of potential rabid bat exposure

The Chicago Department of Public Health has issued a warning regarding potential rabies exposure at an outdoor concert at the Salt Shed music venue. The exposure may have occurred during the Goose concert on September 12, between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Bats in the Chicago area have been known to carry rabies, and attendees who were bitten, scratched, or had direct contact with a bat are advised to seek medical attention for rabies post-exposure prophylaxis. It may be difficult to detect bat bites, as they can be painless and leave inconspicuous marks due to their small teeth. Those who did not come into contact with a bat during the concert do not need to take further action, as simply being near a bat does not pose a risk of rabies. Rabies is a serious, fatal disease that affects the nervous system and is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. Prompt medical treatment is crucial following potential exposure to rabies. The Salt Shed has not yet commented on the situation.
