The Laugh Factory Hollywood continued its 42-year tradition by hosting a free Rosh Hashana service on Thursday, October 3rd. Rabbi Bob Jacobs emphasized the importance of finding common ground and looking for the good in life. Jamie Masada, the club’s founder, started the service to provide a sense of family for those who were away from their loved ones during the holidays. His son, Isaac Masada, helped distribute kippahs, and comedian Bill Dawes assisted with the service. The event was streamed live on The Laugh Factory’s YouTube page.
The service included prayers for peace in the Middle East and featured traditional elements such as the blowing of the shofar. Other organizations in Beverly Hills, such as the JEM Center, also held free Rosh Hashana services. The holiday marks the Jewish New Year and is a time for reflection, family gatherings, and festive meals. Rosh Hashana kicks off a 10-day period of repentance leading up to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
Jewish tradition holds that during the High Holy Days, God determines each person’s fate for the coming year, which is then sealed on Yom Kippur. The service at The Laugh Factory served as a reminder of unity, peace, and the importance of coming together as a community during this sacred time.
