Ash Falls Behind in County Supervisor Race, Lawson-Remer Takes Lead – San Diego Union-Tribune

The San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board originally endorsed incumbent county Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer in District 3 before the March primary, citing her efforts to improve public health services. However, since then, Lawson-Remer’s case has weakened due to her use of populist rhetoric and lackadaisical attendance at task force meetings.
Republican challenger Kevin Faulconer, the former mayor of San Diego from 2014 to 2020, is highlighted as a poor alternative. Faulconer’s decision to enter into a costly lease-to-own deal for an unusable office tower, which will cost taxpayers millions of dollars, has been a significant black mark on his record. An audit revealed that he hid important details from the City Council.
The Editorial Board expresses a lack of trust in Faulconer’s ability to serve as supervisor and ultimately reiterates their support for Lawson-Remer. Despite her shortcomings, Lawson-Remer remains the preferred candidate in the race for District 3, which covers communities from Carlsbad to Coronado. Voters are urged to consider the candidate’s track record and choose wisely in the upcoming election.
