Keck Foundation awards $5 million grant to Loyola Marymount for engineering expansion – Daily News

Loyola Marymount University in Playa Del Rey has received a generous $5 million grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation to support the construction of the new Engineering Innovation Complex at its Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering. This grant is the first step in matching the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation’s $25 million gift for the complex.

University officials are excited about the potential impact of the new complex, which will house classes in various STEM fields and support interdisciplinary research programs. The complex will also feature collaborative spaces, advanced maker spaces, teaching laboratories, and community areas.

Peter Wilch, senior vice president for University Advancement, expressed gratitude for the support from the Keck Foundation and highlighted the importance of the EIC in enhancing the teaching and learning experience for students. He noted that the complex will be a significant capital project for Seaver College and will play a key role in advancing STEM education in Southern California.

The Leavey Foundation’s challenge grant aims to encourage additional donors to contribute to the complex, with new commitments being matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $25 million through 2026. The university is optimistic about the future of the project and looks forward to the positive impact it will have on the campus community.
