Montes leads Kennedy football team to victory against San Fernando – Daily News


Kennedy High School’s football team secured a dominant 62-20 victory over San Fernando in a non-league match-up at Granada Hills High on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024. The star of the game was Kennedy’s quarterback Diego Montes, who put on a remarkable performance with 207 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the first half, adding 179 passing yards and five total touchdowns. Montes led the Golden Cougars to a convincing win, showcasing his speed, vision, and ability to throw the ball effectively.

Running back Josue Sandoval also made an impact, rushing for 134 yards and a touchdown, while receiver Amare Rhodes had a standout game with seven catches for 139 yards and a touchdown. Kennedy’s defense held San Fernando scoreless in the second half, with key sacks from James Montes and Ryan Yribe, as well as interceptions from Damien Hernandez.

Kennedy head coach Troy Cassidy praised Montes for his performance and highlighted the team’s strong offensive and defensive plays. Despite penalties and callbacks affecting the game, Kennedy’s offense proved to be elite, with Montes and Rhodes leading the charge.

San Fernando’s Isaiah Castro was a standout on the opposing team, finishing with six catches for 115 yards and a touchdown, as well as a kickoff return for a score. Kennedy heads into a bye week before facing Canoga Park, while San Fernando will host Van Nuys in their next game. Overall, Kennedy’s commanding victory showcased their strength and depth on both offense and defense, setting a positive tone for the rest of their season.
