In a highly anticipated Moore League matchup between Long Beach Poly and Lakewood, all eyes were on transfers Madden Iamaleava and Jace Brown. Despite not being able to play, Poly’s Deuce Jefferson led the team to a 47-20 victory over Lakewood. Jefferson threw for four touchdowns and ran for another, solidifying his case as a potential starter in the future.
The game saw a quick start from Lakewood, taking a 14-point lead early on, but Poly quickly turned the tide, scoring 47 unanswered points. Lakewood’s offense struggled to get going, with their only other score coming late in the fourth quarter.
Both teams were coming off shutout wins in their league openers, but it was Poly who dominated the field on Friday night. Jefferson’s performance was instrumental in the victory, showcasing his talent and potential as a force to be reckoned with in future games.
The focus leading up to the game was also on transfers Iamaleava and Brown, who are waiting for eligibility clearance from the CIF. Iamaleava, an All-CIF quarterback, and Brown, a receiver, transferred from Warren High to Poly at the start of September.
Poly’s coach Stephen Barbee did not comment on the status of the transfers, stating that the paperwork has been submitted and they are awaiting a decision from the CIF. Despite the absence of the star transfers, Poly’s victory against Lakewood showcased the talent and determination of the team’s current lineup.
