The county Department of Public Health has confirmed 14 human cases of West Nile virus this year. Health officials are urging people to take precautions such as using insect repellent, eliminating standing water around their homes, and using screens on doors and windows to prevent mosquito bites and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. While most people infected with West Nile virus experience mild symptoms, it can pose serious health risks for those over 50 or with underlying health problems.
