The Northview football team maintained their undefeated record with a dominant 35-6 victory over Village Christian at Covina District Field. Unfortunately, the game was cut short, with only 2:14 remaining, due to an injury to Vikings’ sophomore Jeremy Arrellano, who was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Despite the abrupt end, Northview showcased their strength from the start, with C.J. Carrillo returning the opening kickoff for a 72-yard touchdown. Quarterback Eric Jimenez and receiver Isaiah Lucero connected for a touchdown, and the Vikings continued to excel throughout the game.
Coach Marcel Perez acknowledged that it was not their best performance, citing penalties and the challenge of returning from a bye week. Junior quarterback Robert Lucero entered the game in the second quarter, making a significant impact with a rushing touchdown and a long pass to his brother Isaiah. Northview’s defense limited Village Christian’s ground game, forcing them to rely on the pass. Despite the Crusaders’ efforts, the Vikings maintained control of the game.
With key players sitting out due to injuries and load management, Northview managed to secure a victory in their final nonleague game before the Valle Vista League opener against Diamond Ranch. The team’s goal is to stay healthy and focused as they aim for a playoff berth. Despite their success in previous years, Northview faces tougher competition in Division 4 this season, based on projections. The Vikings are determined to navigate the challenges ahead and continue their streak of playoff appearances.
