Comedian Brittany Furlan’s dog Neena was nearly carried off by a coyote near their Los Angeles home, but her pet’s extra weight saved it. Furlan shared ring surveillance camera video on Instagram showing the incident, where she managed to rescue Neena from the coyote’s mouth by climbing a wall. She and her husband Tommy Lee were shocked by the encounter. The incident happened in Brentwood, a neighborhood near the Santa Monica Mountains, and Furlan emphasized the importance of pet safety in the area. Coyotes are common in Los Angeles and can be attracted by things like trash and pet food. It is recommended to not leave small pets outside unsupervised and to bring them inside at night to prevent attacks. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife estimates that there are between 250,000 to 750,000 coyotes in the state, who have adapted to living alongside humans in many communities. Furlan’s experience serves as a reminder to be vigilant and not get too comfortable when it comes to the safety of pets in Southern California.
