Anna Hubbard, a senior at Mission Bay High School, has been named a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist, the only one in her class to receive this honor. Out of over 1.3 million students who took the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, she is among the elite 16,000 students selected as semi-finalists. Hubbard’s educational journey began at Curie Elementary before transferring to Hawthorne Elementary for its gifted program and eventually enrolling at Mission Bay for the IB program.
Hubbard is a well-rounded individual with a passion for singing and science. She has been involved in various choirs and ensembles, including the Swing Choir at Mission Bay, as well as the San Diego Children’s Choir and the San Diego Master Chorale. Outside of music, Hubbard has developed an interest in environmental science, marine biology, and ecology, hoping to make a positive impact on the environment in the future.
Looking ahead, Hubbard is considering schools like Northwestern, UBC, and Boston University for a double major in science and music or a dual enrollment program with a music conservatory. National Merit Scholarship is a stepping stone towards achieving her academic goals and aspirations. To become a finalist, Hubbard will need to maintain high academic performance, take the Scholastic Aptitude Test, and submit an essay for consideration.
If Hubbard is selected as a scholarship winner, she could receive one of the 2,500 National Merit $2,500 scholarships, corporate-sponsored scholarships, or college-sponsored scholarships. The final scholarship winners will be announced between April and July 2025. Hubbard’s dedication to academics and extracurricular activities demonstrates her commitment to excellence and her bright future ahead.
