Brett Favre reveals Parkinson’s diagnosis to Congress

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre disclosed to Congress that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s while testifying about misuse of taxpayer money. Favre was accused of improperly redirecting public money to his alma mater and his own benefit. He mentioned losing money in a company developing a concussion drug and his recent Parkinson’s diagnosis. Parkinson’s is a brain disorder that causes movement issues. A study found that playing football was associated with a higher risk of a Parkinson’s diagnosis. Favre, a Hall of Famer, was in Washington to address questions about receiving funds from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. He allegedly received money for speaking engagements he didn’t attend and used political connections to secure funds for a volleyball facility at his alma mater. Favre denied wrongdoing and has repaid some of the money. U.S. Rep. Linda Sanchez criticized Favre’s actions and called for TANF reforms to prevent wealthy individuals from exploiting the system. Favre’s disclosure of his Parkinson’s diagnosis was a surprising element of his congressional testimony.
