DiJonai Carrington pokes Caitlin Clark, resulting in black eye

Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever star, had a disappointing WNBA postseason debut on Sunday, scoring only 11 points, well below her season average of 19.2 points per game. She made only 24% of her shots, including 15% from three-point range. Despite getting a black eye in the first quarter, Clark did not use it as an excuse for her performance. She stated that the injury did not affect her, and she felt she got good shots that just didn’t go down.

Although Clark struggled in her postseason debut, she set a WNBA record with 337 assists this season, despite leading the league with an average of 5.6 turnovers per game. In the loss to the Connecticut Sun, Clark had eight assists and turned the ball over only twice, which she viewed as a positive.

Despite the loss, Clark remains confident in her team’s ability to bounce back in Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 of the series. The Fever struggled early in the season but improved after the Olympic break, earning their first postseason berth since 2016. Clark expressed confidence in her team’s ability to perform better in the upcoming games and believes they can secure a win to keep their season alive.

The Fever will face the Sun in Game 2 on Wednesday in Uncasville, Connecticut, with a decisive Game 3 scheduled for Friday in Indianapolis if required. Clark remains optimistic that her team can turn things around and advance in the playoffs.
