In August, wealthy donors across the nation contributed millions to super PACs supporting various political candidates and parties ahead of the upcoming elections. The largest donations included $10 million from Wisconsin roofing billionaire Diane Hendricks to the MAGA Inc. super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump. Howard Lutnick and Paul Singer also contributed $5 million each to MAGA Inc. On the Democratic side, tech entrepreneurs were the top donors to the FF PAC supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, with Facebook and Asana co-founder Dustin Moskovitz giving $3 million. Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings and Twilio co-founder Jeff Lawson also donated $1 million each to FF PAC.
Overall, super PACs are popular among prolific political megadonors like Hendricks, Lutnick, and Hastings because there are no limits on individual donations, unlike traditional campaign committees. Club for Growth Action, a conservative super PAC, received major donations of $5 million each from Jeff Yass and Richard Uihlein in August. On the Democratic side, House Majority PAC received $600,000 from Amos Hostetter Jr., a co-founder of Continental Cablevision, who has a history of donating to anti-Trump groups. These donations are seen as crucial in supporting and influencing various political campaigns at both the national and local levels.
