LAPD officers form connections with young cancer patients through the Sunshine Kids organization – Daily News

The Los Angeles Police Department hosted children from the Sunshine Kids Foundation at the LAPD Police Academy on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The kids were sworn in as honorary officers and had the opportunity to interact with officers and equipment, including a LAPD helicopter during the special lunch event. The Sunshine Foundation provides positive group activities and emotional support, free of charge, for children battling cancer. The aim is to encourage kids to have fun and celebrate life while boosting self-esteem as they face health challenges. The children were thrilled to meet officers, police dogs, horses, and even take a close look inside a real LAPD helicopter. Many officers wore Sunshine Kids buttons in support of the foundation. The event was captured in heartfelt photos by David Crane of the Los Angeles Daily News/SCNG. The LAPD’s outreach to these children demonstrates care for the community and aims to create unforgettable experiences for these young fighters. Participation in events like this helps to bring awareness to the important work done by organizations like the Sunshine Kids Foundation and foster a sense of community and support for children battling cancer.
